It is hard to believe that two months have already passed since Derek and I said “I do”. This time has been spent with blissful dedication to celebrating our love and creating magical memories together. We knew when choosing a honeymoon destination that warmer weather and magic moments were key priorities. After months of preparation including dining reservations, Fastpasses, and a long list of movies to rewatch, we finally arrived at Disney properties for our honeymoon! A week before arriving on property, we stayed just down the road at Tropical Palms Resort. During this time we enjoyed the perks of staying close to the parks and Disney property by exploring some of the cheaper and free options offered. By the end of the week at Tropical Palms we were beyond ready to celebrate Disney style, and looking forward to six phenomenal days on Disney property.
Day 1: Fort Wilderness
Before heading to our new campsite we had to make a pit stop at Best Friends Pet Hotel, which is the animal boarding service on Disney property. Almost all animals are welcome to stay, except for primates and venomous breeds. While we wanted Boone with us to share in the magic, we also knew loooooong days don’t make happy pups. This pet hotel is considered one of Disney’s resorts, and they really do go all out to give your pet the best experience. Boone was happy to take a vacation and relax in his own two room indoor-outdoor suite. We even received a report card about Boone's behavior during his stay! Best Friends Pet Hotel has a variety of boarding options and extras to add-on. Every package includes a safe and comfortable area for your pet, as well as at least one potty walk each day. Add-ons for your pooch can include cuddle time, bedtime stories, ice cream breaks, and holiday meals. If you really want to spoil your pet, book the VIP Luxury Suite! Coming in at $109 a night this package includes two daily potty breaks, two playgroup sessions, flat screen TV, PetChatz webcam access, a bedtime story, and a shampoo bath.
Derek and I were lucky enough to snag a reservation at Disney’s campground, Fort Wilderness. Getting a reservation at this popular spot is tough. I called about ten months ahead of our honeymoon and I’m pretty sure someone had to work a little magic to make it all happen. Check-in was quick, and easily done ahead of time online. I selected that we wanted to arrive early if possible. Derek received a text hours before official check-in time telling us the site was ready. After making sure Boone was safe and happy we headed over to our home for the next week. As you can imagine, this campground had more amenities than any other we have camped at before and staying on property gave us a few added benefits during our honeymoon. In a campground reminiscent to the great American frontier in looks, you may not expect all the comforts of home. However Fort Wilderness Campground provides guests with all the camping friendly amenities needed to make your stay enjoyable, with archery classes, a royal stable, pool, arcade, and a nightly Chip 'n' Dale Campfire to boot! Roads around the campground were a little tight, but once we were backed into the site setting up was a cinch. Each campsite is level and has all the hook-ups you need. Ready to explore, Derek unlocked our bikes and we raced off to get our bearings around the campground and take a dip in the pool.
We worked up an appetite just in time for our dinner reservations at the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue. The revue is a highly anticipated and recommended 2 hour Wild West dinner show filled with singing, comedy, and audience participation. We headed down to Pioneer Hall not knowing what to expect, and got swept up clapping, playing, and singing along. The traveling performers take time to get to know the audience members. At one point during the show Derek and I were sung about, playing the part of newlyweds. During all of the fun a friendly server was dropping off buckets of food. We chowed down on fried chicken, BBQ ribs, salad, baked beans, and cornbread. For dessert we attempted to tackle an entire strawberry shortcake before being called to play the washboard. The Hoop Dee Doo had a wonderful warm and fun atmosphere, perfect for kicking off our honeymoon! With an pre-sun wake up in store for us, we planned a night of pj's, Disney movies, and tucked into bed early. Yee Haw!
